Complex installation of transformer substations

Installation and repair of power transformers

Modern transformers are quite complex technical devices, the price of which depends on many factors - power, design, scope of application, and so on. Installation and connection of the transformer - this is a complex and time-consuming process. When carrying out general construction work, considerable attention is paid to the issue of preparing access roads to the transformer installation site, an oil receiver filled with gravel and a foundation for the transformer.

When handing over foundations for transformers, it is necessary to check the presence and correct installation of anchors for fastening traction devices when rolling transformers and the presence of foundations for jacks to make it possible to turn the rollers. Transformers with a power of up to 1600 kV*A are transported entirely, filled with oil and assembled. Power transformers, which have more power, depending on the dimensions and weight, are transported without oil or filled with oil, with dismantled components.

Transportation of the transformer is carried out on a transport platform of appropriate carrying capacity or by rail. It is very important that during transportation the transformer is fastened in accordance with the manufacturer’s drawings. At the installation site, the transformer is unloaded using a crane of appropriate lifting capacity or using hydraulic jacks.

When the transformer arrives at the installation site, the necessary storage conditions are created for both the individual components and the transformer itself before installation begins; the measuring instruments of the transformer and its protection relays are checked in advance in the laboratory. Closed installation of power transformer Used only in residential areas to limit noise levels and in areas with high levels of pollution. At substations with high voltages of 35 kilovolts or more, open installation of transformers is most often used.

Moreover, if an unfounded inspection is carried out, the manufacturer may void the warranty established on the transformer. Inspection of the active part is only permitted in cases where measurement results or external signs indicate possible internal damage. Transformer depressurization is usually carried out in clear, dry weather. The temperature of the active part must be higher than the ambient temperature. This should be taken into account to avoid dew from the environment falling onto the active part of the transformer.
